Itinerary

DAY 1:ARRIVAL TO TUNISIA

Arrival at the airport of Tunis, assistance by our team and transfer to Hammamet. Dinner and overnight at LE SULTAN HAMMAMET 4* Hotel or similar. 

DAY 2: THE BERBER CAVE DWELLERS

Aftre breakfast, departure to El Jem, visit the famous Roman amphitheater ranked 3rd in the world with a capacity of 35000 spectators. Drive to Gabes, a coastal oasis, visit to “Jara” the ancient spice market and Henna plants (a vegetal tint used by Berber women in the traditional wedding). Departure to Matmata, Berber village unique of its kind known for its underground cave houses and its lunar landscape. Visit to a Berber troglodyte house to discover the amazing Berber architecture and the daily life. Visit to the underground hotel Sidi Driss, set location of Star Wars movie. We continue crossing the beginning of the Dhahar massif till Tamezret, superb Berber Crest village among the very rare villages still inhabited in southern Tunisia, built on a hill at the top of which we find an old mosque and a Moorish cafe meeting place for the old people of the village to play cards and domino. Visit to the small traditional museum of Berber dresses in Tamezret. Drive back to Matmata, delicious typical dinner and overnight at the troglodyte Lodge AU TRAIT D’UNION.

DAY 3TATAOUINE & THE AMAZING KSARS

After breakfast, we drive crossing of the Dhahar massif with a panoramic break in Toujane, superb Berber village nestled in the mountains. Departure to the visit of Ksar Hadada, former granary used by Berber tribes, and filming location for the episode “The threat of the Ghost” from the movie “Star Wars”. Visit to Ksar El Mourabitine, one the best Berber granaries in Tataouine region with its Ghorfas superimposed used to store the crop and agricultural products. Drive to Tataouine, the city which housed the foreign legion in the French colonial times; visit to the local market. After lunch Visit to the prehistorical museum of the city of sciences where many bones of Dinosaurs are exposed. Then drive to Ain Charchar to discover the amazing “moon surface” landscape. Drive to Ksar Ouled Soltane, a wonderful granary composed of 4 floors of storing cells called Ghorfas. We continue to Douiret, amazing abandoned crest village in the heart of Dhahar massif with its houses dug in the mountains. Typical tasty dinner and overnight in the troglodyte Lodge GÎTE DE DOUIRET with its wonderful cave rooms.

DAY 4: THE AMAZING BERBER CREST VILLAGES

After a delicious breakfast made of local products, visit to Douiret to discover the ancient Berber architecture of the abandoned houses, the ancient oil mills and the underground mosque. Departure to Chenini with a break at midway to discover the oldest and biggest olive tree of Tunisia called “ZitounetAlakarit”. Arrival to Chenini, a crest village at the top of the mountains with its superb houses carved into the rocks and its Ksar which overlooks the whole village, wander tour to visit the village till the small white mosque which overcomes the panorama, then we invite you to , enjoy a rich meal with a typical menu of local gastronomy. Then, visit to the famous legendary mosque of the “Seven Sleepers” with its giant tombs. We continue to Guermessa, the mystical village with its beautiful architecture that looks a lot like Chenini and Douiret, walking tour to discover this genius of Berber ancestral architecture. Return to Douiret, dinner and overnight at GÎTE DE DOUIRET

DAY 5: MEMORABLE OVERNIGHT IN TUNISIA SAHARA DESRET

After breakfast, departure to Ksar Ghilane, Saharan oasis located at the beginning of the Gran Erg Oriental, huge desert of ocher sand, visit to the oasis where you can enjoy a beautiful swim in the natural spring of sulfuric water at 34 C °. Possibility of a Quad biking or camel riding (optional) to cross the dunes and go to the remains of the ancient Roman fort located a few kilometers from the oasis. After lunch, departure to Douz; small city called “Sahara Gate”, visit to the local market known for the manufacture of slippers, traditional shoes made from camel skin. Transfer by 4X4 vehicle to the Saharan camp crossing the dunes of fine sand, where you will admire stunning landscapes. After a breathtaking sunset, you can enjoy the preparation of the sand bread made by the cook and a delicious dinner which will be served around the campfire. Overnight in a tent at the Saharan camp

DAY 6: THE SALT LAKE & THE MAGICAL WORLD OF OASES

After breakfast, drive to Tozeur crossing Chott El Jerid, the largest Salt Lake in Tunisia, short break for photos admiring unusual landscapes of the lake. Arrival to Tozeur, the capital of Bled El Jerid « The land of palms ». Visit to the old city of Tozeur with its house decorated with traditional bricks made of clay and narrow streets covered by palm trunks. After lunch, departure to discover the mountain oases on the Atlas mountain range. Arrival to Chebika oasis and wander tour through the oasis with its stunning landscapes and natural water springs. Drive to Tamerza oasis and visit of the waterfalls and the old abandoned village with wonderful views. Drive back to Tozeur, dinner and overnight at Ksar El Djerid 4* hotel.

DAY 7:KAIROUAN THE HOLY CITY

After breakfast, departureto Kairouan, the holly city of Islam and declared World Heritage, arrival and visit to the city and its ancient monuments. Visit to the Aghlabid basins, old water reserves that fed the entire city. Visit to the Abu Zoumaa Al Balaoui Mausoleum called Sid Sahib or the Barber. Visit to the Great Mosque of Okba, that took the name of its founder. Panoramic visit to the ancient mosque called “Three Doors Mosque”. After lunch, visit of the Medina with its souks and narrow streets. Possibility to visit of a carpet weaving workshop. Departure to Hammamet, dinner and overnight at Le Sultan 4* Hotel.

DAY 8:END OF THE TRIP

Breakfast at the hotel and then departure to the airport for the return flight. End of our services.

How can I find you at the arrival airport in Tunisia?

At your arrival at the airport you will find the counters of the telephone companies Tunisie Telecom, Oeredoo and Orange to get a Sim card from 10 € paid on the spot for at least one week.

What electrical voltage is used in Tunisia?

The electric current used in Tunisia is 220 V in the whole country including hotels.  The plugs used are double entry and identical to French plugs.

How is the Saharan camp?

The Saharan camp is located in the middle of the desert surrounded by giant dunes, the tents are individual and comfortable, they are equipped with beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows and blankets. Toilets and showers are shared with hot water in winter.

Is it cold at night in the desert ?

In the Tunisian Sahara Desertn theres no big diffrence between the tempreture during the day and that of the night but in winter the temperature  could decrease to 2  degrees. Il would be better to wear a pullover with a Jacket. But un summer time it’s hot  at night.

Are drinks available in the desert ?

At the Saharan camp, you will find fresh soft drinks, beer and Tunisian wine available at the bar or served at the table during dinner
