Itinerary of the Oasis Desert and Salt Lake Tour

DAY 1TROGLODYTE VILLAGE AND OVERNIGHT IN THE DESERT CAMP

Pick up from your hotel or location in Sousse or Hammamet towards south Tunisia, the Berber villages, and the oasis desert of the Grand Erg Oriental.

On the way, we make a break at El Djem city to visit the Roman amphitheater ranked 3rd in the world with a capacity of 35000 spectators.

After that, drive to Matmata, an amazing Berber village of unique beauty known for its cave-dwelling houses and the impressive lunar landscape.

We will visit an inhabited Berber troglodyte house to discover the ancient troglodyte architecture and the daily life of Berber women.

You will be delighted to discover the hospitality of Berber families and enjoy the delicious bread prepared in a traditional oven and served with natural honey and extra virgin Olive oil.

Afterward, you will enjoy a traditional meal in a troglodyte restaurant.

In the afternoon, we cross the Dhahar massif with its amazing landscapes towards Douz, the city named  The Gate of the Sahara.

Upon arriving, you can enjoy doing some optional activities in the desert such as Camel ride or Quad Bike (optional).

After contemplating the charming sunset in the desert, we head to the Desert Camp.

A mouthwatering dinner of local gastronomy and overnight in a tent at the Desert Camp (equipped with WC and Showers).

Don’t miss the sensation of freedom you will get while observing the starry sky.

DAY 2A SPECTACULAR SUNSET IN THE SAHARA DESERT

After a pleasant overnight in the desert and tasty breakfast, early departure to Chott El Djerid, a huge Salt Lake with unusual landscapes covering more than 4650 Km².

We continue to the Atlas Mountains to discover the most beautiful oasis desert of Tunisia, Chebika, and Tamerza.

Arrive at Chebika, an amazing oasis nestled in a superb mountainous landscape, wander tour to enjoy spectacular views and the ancient abandoned village.

After having a rest and savoring a heavenly fresh orange or pomegranate juice.

Then, we drive to Taamerza, a larger oasis with an exuberant palm grove, visit Waterfall and the abandoned ancient villages which offer stunning views.

Afterward, we continue to Gafsa city to savor a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Kairouan, the holy city of  Tunisia declared World Heritage.

Panoramic visit to the Great Mosque of Kairouan from the outside (The visit is possible only in the morning).

Finally, we go back to Sousse or Hammamet, drop off in your selected hotel, and end of our service.

How are the tents at the Desert Camp?

The tents at the Desert camp are equipped with separate beds with mattresses, pillows, sheets, and blankets that meet hygienic standards. Toilets and showers are common and outside with hot water in winter.

Is it cold in the desert at night?

In the Tunisian Sahara Desert, there’s no big difference between the temperature during the day and that of the night but in winter the temperature could decrease to 2 degrees. It would be better to wear a pullover with a Jacket. But in the summertime, it’s hot at night.

Are drinks available in the desert?

At the Desert camp, you will find fresh drinks available at the bar paid on-site or served at the table during dinner.

At what time does this trip end and drop off at our hotel?

Usually this tour will end late in the afternoon between 17:00 and 18:00.

E stata veramente en belle esperienza dormire nel deserto sotto una tenda. Abbiamo apprezzato molto l’alba nel lago salato e l’oasi di Chebika.

On despite of the long distance, it was an amazin trip in southern Tunisia. The kids enjoyed a lot the camle ride and the swim under the water fall in the oasis.
