Itinerary

DAY ITNERARY:TUNIS-KAIROUAN-EL DJEM-TUNIS

  • Early departure from your selected hotel towards Kairouan, the holy city of Islam and religious capital of Tunisia founded by Muslims in 670, declared a world heritage site. In the ninth century, the Aghlabids endowed it with several mosques, monuments and hydraulic installations.
  • Arrival and visit to the Aghlabid basins, old water reserves that provided the entire city with drinkable water.
  • Visit of the Abu Zoumaa Al Balaoui Mausoleum called Sid Sahib or the Barber
  • Visit of the majestic Great Mosque of Okba
  • External visit to the “Three Doors Mosque”.
  • Visit to the Sidi Abid al-Ghariani Mausoleum
  • Visit to the Medina with its traditional souks of cottage industry
  • Drive to El Djem city for lunch.
  • After lunch, visit to the amphitheatre of el Djem, one of the largest Roman amphitheaters ever
    built and declared a World Heritage site with its sublime architecture and its colossal arcades. It’s considered to be the third-largest one, after the Colosseum in Rome and Capua and could accommodate a whopping crowd of 35,000 spectators to contain people.
  • Visit to the archaeological museum of El Djem which houses an amazing collection of Roman mosaics.

Is it a private or a group trip?

Do we have to cover up to get into the mosque?

To enter the mosque you must cover your feet up to the knees and women must cover their heads and shoulders with scarves. At the entrance of the mosque you will be given free tunics and scarves for the visit.

Can we get into the mosque's prayer room?

During the visit of the mosques tourists are allowed to enter only to the main patio, tourists will see the prayer room only from the access door.
