Far from the modern cities of Tunisia, the majority of women in rural areas live directly from handicraft activities such as pottery, carpet weaving, basketry, sewing traditional clothes. These handicraft activities are generally practiced at home, in these rural women’s entres or also in women’s associations. The visit of these places is included in the programs of our tours in order to participate in the development of the economy of some local communities and to ensure more work for rural women so that they can have a more productive and lucrative role.

The Bedouins are the nomads who live perpetually in the semi-Saharan regions in south-west Tunisia with their herds of goats and camels, living in tents in the middle of the desert. These ethnic groups know the desert and its secrets perfectly but they are remote and deprived of any sign of modern and comfortable life with the minimum of social and economic rights. Our agency Tacapes Tours has involved nomadic groups as service partners during the organization of camel and Saharan trekking to assure them some benefits for the continuity of their activities.
Often in the south of Tunisia, whether in the palm or olive groves, the agricultural land belongs to families in the form of small plots cultivated for their own needs. We have involved these small farmers in the programs of our tours and excursions to take our clients to participate in the date picking and olive harvesting with local families, thus we allow our clients to live a unique experience with local people participating in the harvest and we help those farmers to have economic and social benefits through the excursion we organize with them.
