Itinerary of the Desert vibes overnight and camel ride from Djerba

DAY 1:MEMORABLE OVERNIGHT IN THE SAHARA DESERT IN BIVOUAC

  • Departure from your hotel in 4×4 to the harbor of Ajim to take the Ferry.
  • After the crossing, departure to the Dhahar massif, the crucible of the Berber civilization.
  • You will start feeling the desert vibes
  • Arrive at Toujene, a stunning Berber village nestled between the mountains offering a surprising landscape.
  • Visit of the village and possibility of visiting an old troglodyte oil mill which produces oil using ancient techniques.
  • Drive to Matmata, a unique Berber village of its kind known for its cave-dwelling houses and lunar landscape.
  • Visit an inhabited troglodyte house to discover the Berbers’ lifestyle.
  • Typical lunch in Matmata to savor the delights of the Berber culinary art.
  • After lunch, departure towards Douz the door of the Sahara.
  • Access to the sand dunes and meeting with our cameleers who are waiting for us with camels for a superb camel ride between the sand dunes (Duration from 2h to 2h30 and one camel per person).
  • After a brief initiation, the caravan sets off across beautiful dunes to the place where we will spend the night in the desert Bivouac.
  • Free time to admire the landscape until sunset while the cameleers and the cook prepare the dinner and the sand bred.
  • After dinner, evening around the campfire while listening to euphonious popular songs of the nomads of the Sahara, our camel drivers.
  • Then, you’ll enjoy a quiet night under a wonderfully starry sky.

DAY 2:AMAZING BERBER VILLAGES AND KSOURS

  • Typical breakfast prepared by our cameleers, then departure to the city of Douz.
  • Arrive at Douz and visit of the marketplace with its artisanal products and traditional workshops of Babouches, shoes made from camel leather.
  • (Thursday is the weekly market day of animals, it is the most typical market of southern Tunisia where the Bedouins of the desert meet to exchange their goods and still practice the barter of goats and camels).
  • Drive to Ksar Hallouf crossing the Dhahar Massif which offers spectacular landscapes of the rocky desert.
  • Arrive at Ksar Hallouf, visit the old mountain granary overlooking the small village and the oasis.
  • Typical lunch at the oasis of Ksar Hallouf.
  • In the afternoon, departure to the city of Medenine, visit the former granary and the traditional museum of Ksours.

What's a Bivouac?

The bivouac is a rudimentary camp that we set up in the middle of the desert and that will allow us to spend the night under the stars or in tents. The principle is to set up the tent or camp without shelter in the evening at sunset and leave in the morning.

Is it cold at night in the desert ?

In the Tunisian Sahara Desert there’s no big diffrence between the tempreture during the day and that of the night but in winter the temperature  could decrease to 2  degrees. Il would be better to wear a pullover with a Jacket. But un summer time it’s hot  at night.

Are drinks available in the desert ?

In the desert Mineral Water and soft drinks are available.
