Itinerary

DAY 1:ARRIVAL TO TUNISIA (70 KM)

Arrival at Tunis airport, assistance by the tour guide and transfer to Hammamet. Dinner and overngiht at Le Sultan 4* hotel or similar. 

DAY 2THE MAGICAL DOUGGA ROMAN RUINS (290 KM)

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Zaghouane, ancient roman city which supplied during centuries Carthage with water, visit to the temple of the waters and ancient roman aqueduct. Drive to Thuburbo Majus beautiful historical roman city, visit to the ancient ruins The Capitol temple, which is dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, the Temple of Mercury. The Winter and Summer Baths, The Palaestra of the Petronii, the temple dedicated to Baal, the sanctuary of Caelestis. Drive to Tubersouk village for lunch. After lunch, drive to Dougga, the best and most preserved archaeological site in Tunisia and considered World Heritage, visit to the Roman ruins of ancient Thugga with its majestic monuments in very well preserved: the theater, the Capitol, the Forum, the baths, the lubico-punic mausoleum, the place of the wind rose, houses with their floor decorated by mosaics …etc. Departure to Kairouan the fourth holy city of Islam and first Arab-Muslim city in Tunisia considered world heritage. Dinner and overnight at Ksabah 5* hotel.

DAY 3:KAIROUAN THE HOLY CITY (300 KM)

After breakfast, departure to discover the city of Kairouan and its monuments. Visit of the Aghlabid basins, old water reserves that fed the entire city. Visit of the Abu Zoumaa Al Balaoui Mausoleum called Sid Sahib or the Barber. Visit to the Great Mosque of Okba, that took the name of its founder. Visit to the mausoleum of Sidi Abid Al Ghariani Panoramic visit to the ancient mosque called “Three Doors Mosque”. Visit to the Medina with its souks and narrow streets. Possibility to visit of a carpet weaving  workshop. After lunch, we continue to Sbeitla, visit of the ruins of the ancient byzantine city Sufeitula withits well-preserved monuments such as the Dioclitien arc, the Baths, the Theater, the basilicas, the Forum, the Capitol, the baptistery…etc. Drive to Tozeur the capital of Bled El Jerid « The land of palms ». Visit to the old city of Tozeur with its house decorated with traditional bricks made of clay and narrow streets covered by palm trunks. Dinner and overnight at Ksar El Djerid 4* hotel or similar.

DAY 4: THE EXUBERENT OASES & THE SALT LAKE (250 KM)

After breakfast, departure to discover the mountain oases on the Atlas mountain range. Arrival to Chebika oasis and wander tour through the oasis with its stunning landscapes and natural water springs. Drive to Tamerza oasis and visit of the waterfalls and the old abandoned village with wonderful views. We continue to Mides oasis located right on the Tunisian-Algerian border, visit of the famous Canyon shooting location of the famous film « The English Patient ». Return to Tozeur for lunch. After lunch, departure to Douz crossing Chott El Jerid, the largest Salt Lake in Tunisia, short break for photos admiring unusual landscapes of the lake. Arrival to Douz the city called «the gate of the Sahara» and possibility to make a camel ride in the sand dunes by the sunset (Optional). Dinner and overnight at Sahara Douz 4 * hotel (Possibility of overnight in a Saharan camp under request and with supplement).

DAY 5BERBER CAVE DWELLERS & KSARS (280 KM)

After breakfast, departure to the Berber villages in the Dhahar mountain range. Visit to Tamezret, a Berber village known for its stone cemeteries, visit to the small Berber museum of traditional dresses. Drive to Matmata famous Berber village of unique beauty known for its dwell cave houses and lunar landscape. Visit a troglodyte house to discover the way of life among the Berbers. We continue our trip crossing of the Dhahar massif with a panoramic break in Toujane, superb Berber village nestled in the mountains. Departure to the visit of Ksar Hadada, former granary used by Berber tribes, and filming location for the episode “The threat of the Ghost” from the movie “Star Wars”. Departure to Chenini the crest village of sublime beauty with its beautiful houses excavated in the rocks. Wander tour in the village till the small white mosque and the ancient granary on the pick of the mountain. Typical lunch to savour a tasty local Berber menu. After lunch, departure to the visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane, an ancient and majestic granary very well preserved with its Ghorfas beautifully superimposed used by Berber tribes to store aliments. Drive to Tataouine, dinner and overnight at Sangho Previlège Tataouine 3* hotel. (There’s no 4 stars hotel in the region).

DAY 6: THE SAHEL COAST & THE COLOSSAL ROMAN AMPHITHEATER (380 KM)

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Gabes via the Ferry; at the arrival, visit to “Jara” the ancient spice market and Henna plants (a vegetal tint used by Berber women in the traditional wedding). We continue the trip towards El Djem city, lunch en the route. After lunch, visit to the famous Roman amphitheater in el Djem, ranked 3rd in the world with a capacity of 35000 spectators. Drive to the city of Monastir, visit of the mausoleum of the first president and founder of the Tunisian Republic Habib Bourguiba. In the afternoon, departure to Sousse, the capital of the Sahel. Visit of the Medina declared World Heritage with its traditional souks. Dinner and overnight in Sousse Palace 5*hotel.

DAY 7:TUNIS, CARTHAGE AND SIDI BOU SAID (180 KM)

After breakfast, visit to the National Bardo Museum, a former residence for the ottoman monarchs, this actually houses the largest collection of Roman mosaics in the world. Drive to the Medina of Tunis declared world heritage, wander tour to discover the ancient monuments of the Medina and the traditional souks. Lunch on the way. In the afternoon, visit to the Carthage ruins, the ancient capital of the Punic Empire: the Tophet an ancient Punic sanctuary dedicate to Tanit and Baal Hamon the most worshipped Gods. Visit to ancient Punic harbours which housed the commercial and military fleet of Carthage. Visit to ancient roman baths of Anthony Drive to the visit of Sidi Bou Saïd, the Moorish village with its beautiful houses painted in blue and white with their balconies typically decorated with arabesque. Return to Tunis city, dinner and overnight at Royal Victoria 4* hotel.

DAY 8:END OF THE TRIP

Breakfast at the hotel and then departure to the airport for the return flight. End of our services.
